New Online Survey Investigates Retail Business Challenges

VANCOUVER, BC May 15, 2004--Are some small retailers more likely to use the internet to search for business advice than others? A new online survey asks retailers to describe their stores and the greatest challenge that they face in their business.

"Struggling retailers are turning to the internet for information, advice and support," says Melanie McIntosh, President, Inspire Retail Solutions, a retail consulting company located in Vancouver, BC. "This survey is designed to create a profile of retail businesses that use the internet to find help. "

"Retailers in small communities can feel isolated and alone, while others in larger cities may feel that a feeling of local competition keeps them from sharing their struggles. The internet gives independent retailers a way to find new ideas, share experiences with other shop owners and find out how their success compares with others," states McIntosh.

"Discussions posted in online retail forums demonstrate that retailers may also find it difficult to judge their level of success without other stores for comparison. The results of this survey will provide an informal benchmark to use as a measuring stick."
